The concept of the Davy Back Fight was never the problem. The problem was Luffy had just beat Crocodile and Eneru, two incredibly powerful characters only to struggle with dealing with Foxy. My bad take would be if Foxy killed all of the Marines and Blackbeard Pirates, while revealing his full name is Rocks D. Foxy

One way it could still work is if Oda played it like that one chicken joke from Family Guy:
Big Mom gets hit upside the head, gets amnesia, becomes O-lin. Less than five panels later, she gets hit again and reverts back to normal. Then gets hit again and is O-lin again. The scene changes to something else, and in the next chapter Big Mom shows up and shouts “They had an even number of things to hit me with!”

Maybe its my own father issues, but I never trusted Whitebeard and was weirded out by his calling all members of his crew his sons. Marineford did not hit at all for me in part cause of that.

i think it would hurt a ton more if nami didn’t also betray. and you can just see the hurt in her eyes as zoro does something so greedy and evil she’s never even dreamt of doing it

All the unnamed background characters throughout the series are hanging out at Laughtale in one giant, forgettable, nondescript mob.

One of my friends (who was at the time around Skypiea) came up with a theory of how Luffy is actually a villain and will steal his crew’s dreams and keep them from being able to accomplish them. This whole time he’s been training with swords in secret so he’s actually the strongest swordsman and kills Mihawk before Zoro can fight him, he finds the All Blue and destroys it, etc. I then spent the next hour or so helping him expand on that theory. Honestly would love it if someone did a fanfic of that one.
